Today was Pie's day. If there was a Soriano look a like contest
Pie would easily be the winner. Soriano was rather quiet today with his bat
but Pie proved it pays to be left handed as he went 3 for 5 with RBIs and a
home run. Zambrano also kept the Brewers bats quiet by pitching 7 innings
and striking out 9 batters. He gave up 2 runs plus a home run but Carlos
Murmol and Bob Howry kept the lead in tact for 2 innings. Demster got some
more work in by closing out the game again. The Cubs are looking much better but it helped that the Brewers
made three errors. Ramirez may be out because of a knee injury running to hard to
first base. DeRosa should be able to fill in in the hot corner but
hopefully Ramirez will be back soon. Ramirez could use the rest since he
has been playing so hard performing so well. Lilly couldn't come through as he gave up 6 runs and only
struck out 2 in 5 innings of work. Three of the Brewers found something in
Lilly's delivery as they took his pitches for a ride. The bull pen gave up
a run but kept the Brew crew in tact for the most part. The Cubs tried to come back as Floyd contributed a jack of his
own but 5 runs could not match the 7 runs the Brewers scored. The Cubs were a bit over matched in this game but Lilly didn't
seem to have his arm action going for him as the Brewers were able to spot
his sweet curve balls that can be hit right to go out of the park. Jason Marquis didn't have his prime stuff but he managed the
Brewers for 6 innings by striking out 3 and giving up only 2 runs. Carlos
Murmol, Wil Ohman and Michael Wuertz handled the Brewers for 3 innings to
help Marquis out. They gave up only 1 hit and struck out 3. Ryan Demster
came in and closed the game out to keep himself true. The star of the show was Soriano in his 5 for 5 with a home run
game. Soriano is starting to heat up since his buddy Felix Pie has returned
to the line up to fill in for Daryle Ward. Soriano, Lee, Ramirez and
Izturiz worked together by scoring the RBIs to get the Cubs the 7 - 2 win
over the first place Brewers.
