No Chance! Huh!

4/28/2007 11:10 PM

In typical St. Louis fashion the St. Louis Dispatch decided that it would insult the Chicago Cubs by writing an article that ripped the Cubs called No Chance. Tony LaRussa let his opinion known by refusing to answer any questions by the St. Louis dispatch. The Cardinals and the Cubs are rival teams but are respected rival teams that play good ball. The one thing that they have to remember in St. Louis is that there are many teams that are out for that World Series Crown. If the Cubs don't make it there, they will surely be the ones that will supply the players. So when the day comes and St. Louis needs the help it may just be ignored by the Cubs. Oh! Zambrano beat Albert Pujols 8 - 1. Z pitched 7 innings, struck out 2 and gave up an Albert Pujols home run. This is how Z usually gets back on track. When he pitches for defense it turns into more strike outs and more shut outs.

The Cubs had a 7 run 5th  inning that was very productive and got the Cubs there win. Jacque Jones contributed 3 runs by hitting a triple with the bases loaded. The ball was about a foot away from going out but it stayed in and bounced off the wall and allowed the Cubs 3 more runs.

The barn doors are starting to bust open as the Cubs win their 3rd straight. Rich Hill will go to the mound tomorrow and hopefully give the Cubs their first sweep of the year.

Dempster comes through!!

4/28/2007 8:10 AM

Jason Marquis came through and pitched 6 innings, no strike outs, walked 3 batters and gave up three runs. This obviously frustrated Tony LaRussa because those kind of numbers should have produced more runs for the Cardinals. Marquis took a different approach this time and let the Cardinals get them selves out. The Cubs bats came through as Ramirez hit his 5th home run of the season and Pie hit his his first Major League Home run. (Good place to get the first one)

After Marquis gave up 2 runs in the 7th inning Will Ohman and  Michael Wuertz came in and shut the Cardinal bats down. Wuertz came in the 8th inning and struggled a bit so Lou brought in Neal Cotts and Ryan Dempster to put a stop to it. Dempster shut the Cardinals down in the 9th and the Cubs walked away with another win.

The Cubs haven't won two straight since April 6th and 7th.  They may have something going here. Hopefully Zambrano can relocate his material from last year today.

Note: San Francisco was 3 and 8 on the first two weeks of April. They have come back from that and are 9 and 2 in the last 11 games. They road an 8 game win streak that ended last night but they are sitting on top of the West right now.
