Getting ready for spring

Lou put in Daryle Ward
and Cliff Floyd today to see how the Cubs will look in a back up theory.
They lost a tough game to the Angels but most of it was done with a pitch
that actually horrible. Kerry Wood was on in relief for Ted Lilly and he
pitched a high inside pitch that was hit out for a 2 run home run. The
pitch probably had little velocity but it was still muscled out to give the
Angels 3 runs. Wood still has a lot to catch up on and will probably move
his work into the season.
Ted Lilly was dominant
as he only gave up 4 hits, struck out 4, 1 walk and no runs on 6 innings.
The Cubs bats were just as silent today as the Angels were. However Cliff
Floyd needed to put a mental note in Lou’s head. Floyd smacked a long home
run out to right field that was very loud. You knew when he hit it, it was
long gone. That gave the Cubs a 1 - 0 lead until the Angel bats got the
best of Kerry Wood.
The Angels walked in a
run in the 8th inning to make it a 3-2 game. The Cubs needed to
get the runs in after loading the bases but it just didn’t happen. Daryle
Ward is supposed to be a good threat at the plate with the bases loaded.
Today he hit just about every pitch down the first base line for a ground ball.
This time Ward came up and hit a line drive into a double play.
I think that Ward has
made a name for himself by his numbers. It is the clutch players that the
Cubs will need in these situations during the season.
The Cubs will play the
Angels again tomorrow with Marquis on the mound. Friday will be the last
spring training game for the year so look forward to getting the
announcement on the line up. As if you haven’t figured most of it out!
